Seeing God's Hand Even When You Can't



One thing that has really stood out to me about the book of Esther is that God's name isn't mentioned once. At first, that seems strange. But the more you read it, the more you realize His fingerprints are on every page.

Honestly, I think that's how life works a lot of the time.

There are seasons when we wonder where God is. We pray. We wait. We don't see miracles. We don't hear an audible voice. We just keep living life one day at a time.

But that doesn't mean God isn't working.

When you look at Esther's life, everything probably seemed random to her. She lost her parents at a young age. She was raised by her cousin Mordecai. She was taken into the king's palace. None of those events probably made much sense while she was living through them.

Then Mordecai said something that changed everything:

"For such a time as this."

Suddenly, all those painful and confusing moments had purpose.

That really made me stop and think about my own life.

How many times have I wondered why a door closed? Why something didn't work out? Why I had to go through a difficult season?

Then months—or even years—later, I could look back and clearly see that God was leading me the whole time.

I think that's one of the biggest lessons from Esther. We don't always recognize God's hand while we're in the middle of the story. Sometimes we only see it when we look back.

Another thing that challenged me is that Esther didn't have any guarantees. She didn't know if the king would receive her or have her put to death. She simply trusted God and took the next step.

That's what faith looks like.

Most of us want God to show us the entire plan before we're willing to move. But God usually doesn't work that way. He asks us to trust Him one step at a time.

The sermon also reminded me that God often uses the hardest seasons of life to shape us into the people He wants us to become. None of us enjoy those seasons, but they're often where our faith grows the most.

So if you're going through a difficult time right now, don't assume God has forgotten you.

Keep trusting Him.

Keep following Him.

Keep taking the next step of obedience.

One day you may look back and realize that what felt like a series of random events was actually God preparing you for your own "for such a time as this" moment.

The same God who was quietly working behind the scenes in Esther's life is still working behind the scenes in yours.

Even when you can't see Him, He's still there.

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches

It is understandable why some people—both inside and outside the church—begin to see Christianity through the lens of a kind of “sword and sorcery” fantasy.
