Knowing God Fully – Near, Majestic, Active, Beyond

God is bigger and closer than we can imagine. He is immanently present, intimately involved in our lives, sustaining and guiding us. There is nowhere we can go where He is absent. In Christ, God drew near to us in the most personal way, entering our world to redeem and restore it.

At the same time, God is eminently majestic. He reigns in glory, holiness, and sovereignty above all creation. His greatness is beyond comprehension, yet it does not prevent Him from loving and caring for us. Worship flows naturally from recognizing both His power and His nearness.

God is also imminently active. His plans will not fail or delay forever. Christ’s return is near, and every promise of God will be fulfilled at the appointed time. This reminds us to live faithfully, watchfully, and obediently, trusting that God is working in history and in our lives.

Finally, God is transcendent, beyond space, time, and human understanding. He is eternal, unchanging, and holy, entirely other than creation. Yet His transcendence does not make Him distant; He draws near to us in grace, calling us into relationship and covenant with Him.

Reflection: God’s fullness—His nearness, majesty, activity, and transcendence—invites us to trust, worship, and obey. 

Take a moment today to ask:
Am I seeking God because of His greatness or because of my own comfort?
How can I reflect His holiness in my words and actions?
Am I ready for His plan to unfold, even if it challenges me?

Prayer: Lord, help me to recognize Your presence in my life, to worship You for Your majesty, to trust Your imminent plans, and to honor Your transcendence. Let my heart respond to You with complete devotion, as Joshua declared: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. But Isaac (Sarah’s son) was born through God’s promise, even when it seemed impossible³. That’s the key difference Paul is pointing to: one represents human effort, the other represents God stepping in and doing what only He can do. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches

It is understandable why some people—both inside and outside the church—begin to see Christianity through the lens of a kind of “sword and sorcery” fantasy. Popular imagery often portrays spiritual life as a dramatic battlefield filled with powerful warriors, overwhelming force, and visible dominance. That kind of imagery can feel intense and meaningful, and to be fair, it reflects something real—the existence of a spiritual struggle between good and evil. But where things go wrong is when the aesthetic of power gets mistaken for the nature of God. Scripture itself corrects that idea immediately.
