Words Aren’t Enough: Living the Truth of Matthew 7:21


In an age when public declarations are as easy as clicking “like” or posting a slogan, Matthew 7:21 cuts through the noise with a sobering reminder: “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.”

This verse reminds us that Christianity has never been about titles, traditions, or surface-level declarations. It’s about the substance of our lives. Calling Jesus “Lord” without living under His authority is like pledging allegiance with your mouth while your actions betray your loyalty. It’s empty.

Too often, faith is treated like a badge rather than a lifestyle. We hear people profess belief, but then see little evidence of surrender, humility, or obedience. This isn’t just hypocrisy; it’s self-deception. Jesus Himself warns us that words without obedience won’t stand on Judgment Day.

The power of Matthew 7:21 lies in its direct challenge: Are we Christians in name only, or in action? Faith that costs nothing, requires nothing, and changes nothing is not faith at all. As James 1:22 puts it, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”

This isn’t about perfection—none of us achieve that. It’s about direction. Are we orienting our lives toward God’s will? Do our choices, our treatment of others, and even our private integrity reflect that we actually serve a risen Lord? Or do we settle for the comfort of saying the right words while living unchanged?

The hard truth is this: Christianity is not a matter of speech but of surrender. Matthew 7:21 warns us against the danger of talking the talk without walking the walk. And in doing so, it calls us to something greater: a faith that is alive, costly, and transforming.

And here is the hope—God never asks us to walk this path alone. The same Christ who calls us to obedience also empowers us by His Spirit. When our hearts are truly yielded, His strength carries us where our own cannot. So the call of Matthew 7:21 is not a burden, but an invitation: to live daily with a faith so genuine, so rooted in love, that our words and our lives echo the same truth—Jesus is Lord!

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God.
