Living a Faith-Filled Life: Trusting God for the Miraculous


Living a faith-filled life starts with daring to trust God beyond what we can see or figure out on our own. Too often, we ask, “What should I do?” when we should be asking, “What will God do?” The Bible calls us to put our confidence in God’s power, promises, and timing, trusting Him to act in ways we can’t imagine.

From the beginning, God’s people were called to live by faith. Hebrews 11 shows us how Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah acted on God’s promises even when circumstances made success seem impossible. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Faith isn’t passive; it’s confident, bold, and expecting God to move. Abraham and Sarah trusted God to give them a child despite their old age, and they saw His promise fulfilled (Romans 4:18–21).

Living by faith means trusting God over ourselves. Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us that God’s ways are higher than ours: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” Instead of relying on human logic, we must step back and ask God what He will do. When we do, we create space for the miraculous.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. When Lazarus had died, He said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it” (John 11:4). He didn’t panic—He trusted God to work a miracle. Peter walked on water when he focused on Jesus (Matthew 14:28–31). Miracles happen when faith overcomes fear and doubt.

Faith also means trusting God even before we see results. In 1 Kings 17, God told the widow of Zarephath to give her last meal to Elijah, promising her jar of flour and jug of oil wouldn’t run out. She obeyed and witnessed God’s provision. We must act in faith, trusting that God will provide in impossible situations, remembering Philippians 4:19: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer is part of a faith-filled life. We don’t approach God timidly or with half-hearted requests. Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Faith speaks before the miracle happens, not after. And faith without action is dead—James 2:17 warns, “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” True faith moves us to act, trusting that God will fulfill His promises.

Living a faith-filled life means daring to believe that God can do the impossible, trusting Him over our own understanding, praying boldly, and acting obediently. Instead of asking, “What will I do?” we ask, “What will God do?” Abraham, Peter, the widow of Zarephath, and Jesus show us what happens when we step out in faith. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Live boldly. Trust completely. Expect God to move.

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. But Isaac (Sarah’s son) was born through God’s promise, even when it seemed impossible³. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches

It is understandable why some people—both inside and outside the church—begin to see Christianity through the lens of a kind of “sword and sorcery” fantasy.
