"Jesus Commands: Go, Baptize, Teach, and Trust"

It’s easy to think that Jesus only gave special jobs to a few important people a long time ago. But when you read the end of Matthew’s gospel—chapter 28, verses 16 through 20—you see something different. Jesus gives a job to all of us who believe in Him. He’s talking to His disciples, but this message is meant to go far beyond them. It’s for anyone who calls Him Lord.

Jesus had died on the cross, risen from the grave, and now He was about to return to heaven. These were His final words, and they weren’t small or casual. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” That means Jesus is in charge—of everything. He’s not just a good teacher or a helpful guide. He’s King over the whole universe. And because He’s in charge, He has the right to give us a mission.

And what is that mission? Jesus said to go and make disciples of all nations. Not just people who live nearby. Not just people who look like us or think like us. Everyone. He wants the good news of His life, death, and resurrection shared with the whole world. We’re told to baptize people and teach them everything Jesus commanded. That means it’s not enough to just tell people about Jesus—we’re called to help them follow Him and live the way He taught.

What I love about this passage is how honest it is. Some of the disciples worshiped Jesus when they saw Him. But others doubted. And yet, Jesus still gave the same mission to all of them. He didn’t separate the doubters from the faithful. He trusted them all to go out and spread His message. That tells me God can use us even when we feel unsure or not good enough.

Jesus ends with one more powerful truth: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We are never alone in this. No matter how far we go or how hard it gets, Jesus is right there with us. That’s what gives us the strength and courage to keep going. It’s not about being perfect or having all the answers. It’s about trusting Him and being willing to obey.

So, if you’re wondering what your purpose is, or if God can use someone like you—the answer is right here. Jesus is calling you. You’ve got a mission, a message to share, and the promise that He’s with you every step of the way.

"Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches
