God’s Got This — So Be Still

You ever have one of those moments where you feel totally trapped? Like, no way forward, no way back, and panic starts to settle in? That’s exactly where the Israelites were in Exodus 14. They had just been freed from slavery in Egypt, and now Pharaoh had changed his mind and was coming after them with chariots. The Red Sea’s in front of them, the Egyptian army’s behind them, and everyone’s freaking out.

And what does Moses say? “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm” (Exodus 14:14, NLT). Seriously—calm down? That might’ve sounded crazy in the moment, but Moses wasn’t being naive. He was reminding the people that God was still in control, even when everything looked hopeless.

That line—“stay calm”—isn’t a call to do nothing out of fear. It’s actually a call to trust. God wasn’t asking Israel to figure it out. He was saying, “Watch what I’m about to do.” And sure enough, He parts the Red Sea, Israel walks through on dry ground, and Pharaoh’s army is wiped out. Just like that.

This isn’t just a nice Bible story. It’s a pattern we see all through Scripture. In 2 Chronicles 20:15, God tells King Jehoshaphat, “The battle is not yours, but God's.” And in Psalm 46:10, He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Over and over again, God tells His people, “You don’t have to panic. I’ve got this.”

We need to hear that today. Life is loud and stressful. We’re always told to hustle, fix things, and take control. But faith doesn’t always look like movement. Sometimes, faith looks like standing still and saying, “Lord, I trust You to fight this battle for me.”

And the best part? We already know He’s won the war. Colossians 2:15 says Jesus disarmed the powers of darkness and put them to shame. The cross wasn’t just a rescue mission—it was a victory parade. So when you feel overwhelmed, you don’t have to power through it alone. You can breathe, step back, and let God lead.

So yeah—Exodus 14:14 isn’t just a sweet memory verse. It’s a life strategy. When your back’s against the wall, when your options are gone, and when fear is screaming louder than your faith, remember this: God fights for His people. And He’s better at it than we’ll ever be.

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches
