Don’t Waste Pearls on Pigs


You ever try explaining something important to someone who just mocks it, shrugs it off, or flips it back in your face? That’s exactly the kind of moment Jesus was talking about when He said, “Don’t throw your pearls to pigs!” (Matthew 7:6, NLT). It sounds harsh at first, but Jesus wasn’t calling people animals—He was making a point about how we treat the truth, and how others sometimes reject it.

This line shows up right in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount, one of Jesus’ biggest teaching moments. He’d just warned people not to judge hypocritically—like pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye when you’ve got a log in your own. Then boom: He switches gears and tells His followers not to give what’s holy to those who won’t value it. In other words, there are times when trying to explain or defend God’s truth to someone who’s just looking to argue or mock is a waste of breath—and it could even lead to you getting hurt emotionally or spiritually. Not everyone is ready to hear it, and not everyone wants to. Jesus knew that, and He said it straight.

He’s not telling us to give up on people, or to decide who deserves the gospel. That’s not our job. But He is telling us to be wise. Sometimes, walking away is the most faithful thing you can do. If someone’s trampling over your faith like it’s garbage, maybe it’s time to stop throwing pearls their way. And it’s not about being mean—it’s about protecting what’s sacred, valuing the truth, and knowing when a conversation is more about pride and drama than anything real. Jesus walked away from people like that sometimes, and maybe we should take the hint. Be bold, be kind, but be smart too.

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. But Isaac (Sarah’s son) was born through God’s promise, even when it seemed impossible³. That’s the key difference Paul is pointing to: one represents human effort, the other represents God stepping in and doing what only He can do. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches

It is understandable why some people—both inside and outside the church—begin to see Christianity through the lens of a kind of “sword and sorcery” fantasy.
