Why I Suit Up with the Armor of God Every Day

 “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world,against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.
Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

Let’s be honest: life is a battle. Not always in the Hollywood sense, but a real one—messy, emotional, spiritual. There’s this constant tug-of-war in our hearts and minds. Sometimes it feels like we’re at war with everything — culture, temptation, fear, even our own thoughts. And that’s exactly why this whole "armor of God" thing Paul talks about in Ephesians is more relevant today than ever.

When Paul wrote this letter, he wasn’t sipping coffee in a comfy church office. He was chained up in a Roman prison. And yet, instead of spiraling into despair, he told the early Christians to “suit up.” Not with weapons or politics or self-help slogans — but with God's spiritual armor.

Let’s break it down in plain terms, because this isn’t just church talk. This is daily survival gear.

We live in a world filled with spin and fake news—truth is rare and precious. But God’s truth is solid. Jesus said it best: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, NLT) If you're not rooted in truth, everything else falls apart. The belt holds the armor together, and truth holds your life together.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about knowing that through Jesus, you're forgiven, clean, and protected. Like Proverbs 4:23 says: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” We’re constantly bombarded with junk that tries to mess with our hearts—guilt, shame, temptation. Righteousness in Christ blocks it.

Ever tried walking barefoot on rough ground? It slows you down. But when your soul has peace, you can move freely. Romans 10:15 says, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” When you carry peace and purpose, you're not shaken by every little thing.

Ever feel like you're under attack from every direction? Doubts. Anxiety. Insecurity. Satan loves to throw "fiery arrows" (Eph. 6:16). Faith doesn’t mean you won’t feel the heat—it just means you’ve got something stronger between you and the fire. “Every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.” (1 John 5:4, NLT)

Our thoughts can be our worst enemy. That’s why salvation is like a helmet—it reminds us who we are and whose we are. No matter how bad your day is, you are saved. “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1, NLT)

Most of the armor is defensive — but not the sword. The Bible is our weapon against lies and confusion. When Jesus was tempted by Satan, He didn’t argue. He quoted Scripture (Matthew 4:1–11). That’s power. Hebrews 4:12 says God’s Word is “alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword…”

Paul finishes by saying, “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.” Prayer keeps us connected to God. It’s not just a nice add-on — it’s the battle line. Prayer is how we call in help from the frontlines.

Here’s the truth: the enemy isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it's a thought whispering "you're not good enough." Or a temptation disguised as freedom. Or a culture that says feelings are king. But the Bible tells us “our struggle is not against flesh-and-blood enemies, but… against the spiritual forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12, NLT). You can’t fight that with good vibes and motivational quotes. You need God's strength.

I put on the armor every day — not because I’m spiritual or strong, but because I’m weak and I know I need it. Without it, I’m toast. With it, I can stand.

So suit up, friend. Life’s a battle — but we’re not fighting alone.

Living by Promise, Not by the Law

In Galatians 4:21–31, Paul makes a really interesting point about the difference between living under the Law and living under God’s promise. He’s writing to the Galatians because some of them were starting to think they needed to follow the Law—like circumcision and other rules—to be right with God. Paul pushes back on that and basically says: if you really understood the Law, you’d realize it was never meant to save you in the first place¹. To explain this, Paul goes back to Abraham. Abraham had two sons—one with Hagar, a slave woman, and one with Sarah, a free woman². Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was born the natural way—through human effort and planning. Faith Isn’t a Fantasy: What the Bible Actually Teaches
